He gave up all his riches and status, left Xiliang...

改换素衣,身骑白马,赶回中原见王宝钏
Changed into plain clothes, rode a white horse... And hurried back to the Central Plains to reunite with his wife.

Note:
The actual story has slightly more content. The Wang family used all sort of dirty tricks and conspiracy to kill Xue Ren Gui in order to make their daughter give up her wait. They lied to girl that her husband has died on the battlefield repeatedly, etc... etc... but she never gave up.

General Xue Ren Gui was forced to marry the Xiliang Princess due to political reasons (exchange for peace) and became the Xiliang King.

"还不知道王宝钏的故事时,听这首歌是一种感受。
看完故事再听一次, 又是另一种感受; 更深刻的感动。"

Super Starlight Walkway

My own translation for "超级星光大道"... Haha.

In this latest episode of Season 5, they invited all the champions and top contestants from all the previous season back; To perform a duet with the their "juniors"...

There are 2 duet on this episode which I find simply AMAZING.

It's just incredible!!!

It's rarely that I write a post just to recommend a song or 2, but I find these 2 performance really fantastic.

The first one is this...

They took 1 of my favourite song, and turned it into such a superb & alluring duet. I've listen to it like a dozen times and it still amazes me...

The girl, Kang Kang, is from the 4th season... gosh, just listen to her harmonization/chorus effect for the song... There's only 1 word to describe it: GODLIKE!!!

Even Yuan Wei Ren (widely regarded as the most 'difficult' judge) described it as the "pinnacle of male/female duet" (男女对唱的最高境).

And just when I thought that group is the best it can get...This last group totally blow me away!

Unlike the previous one, this is a song I've never heard before, which makes it even more unbelievable...

Fell in love with this song right away... especially the oriental chorus which really strike me. The melody is really captivating! And Xu Jia Ying solo chorus part is just godly.

Went to watch the first time Xu Jia Ying performed this song (Which she got a perfect score!), and then the song from the album. I still like this duet version more.

Unfortunately, I didn't knew what the chorus meant. But this song captivate me so much that I went to do some research on the lyrics of this song...

我身骑白马, 走三关
我改换素衣, 回中原
放下西凉, 无人管
我一心只想, 王宝钏

Turn out that the chorus is taken from a segment of a very well known Chinese Opera, and there's a very beautiful and sad story behind this. Makes me appreciate this song that much more.

Pre-School Opening Cleaning

Woot... I think I've almost turn the whole place upside down... Haha...

Clean out the dirt and dust that's been piling up in every corner of the house... -.-

Threw away lots of stuff...

...

...

Anyway...

Tada!

I get huge sense of accomplishment whenever I open this cupboard and see this!

Wahahahahahahaha...

The most time consuming portion of this whole masterpiece?

It's actually that "4 big stacks of files" on the 2nd shelf...

It contains lecture notes, tutorials, exam papers, quiz papers, reports, etc... etc...

2 gigantic files for each semester.

It's ridiculous.

You don't realized you've gotten through so much **** until you actually sit down and pack them.

Geez...

Very soon will need to add 2 more onto the shelf...

-.-

Auto Transmission

Lesson 15
S21 - Reversing & Directional Change
S22 - Right Turns

Lesson 16
S23 - U Turns
S24 - Narrow Courses (S Course, Crank Course)

Lesson 17 (End Of Stage 2)
S24 - Three Point Turn, Emergency Break
S25 - Stage 2 Review

Love Auto Cars... so MUCH SIMPLER to drive... OMG... don't even have to worry about all the crap like engine stalling, rolling back, changing gears... No cramps on leg either... everything is so simple...

Manual sucks! They need to phase out manual cars within 20 years. LOL.

And I really have a problem with slow movement.

If I step on the accelerator, the car tends to go too fast. If I don't step on it, I'll just risk stalling the engine. I really can't control it too well yet...

Now then I know... The most difficult thing in driving a car is not driving at 80km/hr; It's when you're driving at 5km/hr... -.-'

Additional Note: Emergency Brake is FUN!! I love doing E-Brake! Woot!

Anyway. I'll stop this series here for now since this is as far as I'm currently at.

I'm only left with parking, then revision... then the TP test.

So I'll write about them in the next chapter after I've finished all of them.

Hopefully, it will be the final chapter...

Haha...

A wife was in the kitchen making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband.

Suddenly , her husband burst into the kitchen.

“Careful,” he said, “CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my gosh! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my gosh! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt! USE THE SALT! THE SALT!”

The wife stared at him. “What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?”

The husband calmly replied, “I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving".

Lesson 8 (End Of Stage 1)
S12 - Driving On A Slope
S13 - Stage 1 Review

Lesson 9
S14 - Gear Shifting Part II (Road, 4th Gear)

Lesson 10
S15 - Left Turns and Filter Lane

Lesson 11
S16 - Speed Control
S17 - Pre-Drive Check
S18 - Driving In Observance of Traffic Rules

Woo~ Passed my stage 1 review without much trouble... heh... and so Lesson 9 is start of stage 2... and continuing on with more "on the road" lessons~

By now, I can drive pretty well (I feel). Like, I can already carry out a "normal conversation" with the instructor while I'm driving without fumbling all around. LOL~

During the early stage, if I'm talking, I have to slow down the car, or I'll forget to change the gears, or forget to change lanes, or forget something.

Everything is kinda automatic now with all that time on the road.

And with all these time on the road...

I realize there's a lot of crazy people in Singapore.

Yes, crazy people who don't care about their own lives.

Like... once I was driving...

Then this "siao ginna" boy suddenly DASH out from nowhere, then I brake, but he suddenly stop.

You really got to be careful of these people sometimes... They always pretend pretend... sometimes stand there... your vehicle far away they don't want to cross... Then your vehicle pick up speed and very close le... they suddenly chiong.

WTF is wrong with these people... Trying to test my reaction?

Then got one time... worse...

I driving down this lane, then got one old "Ah Ma"... WTF? Walking in the CENTER of the road like nobody business.

YES. I AM SERIOUS.

She is literally taking a STROLL in the middle of the road, taking up one entire lane on her own.

She's like walking along with the traffic.

...

Is really WTH...

...

And some crazy drivers also.

Yah I was still quite newbie then... then when I use the "filter lane" (you know, those lanes that turn left and got pedestrian crossing one)...

That's suppose to be a SINGLE lane...

Then I was going through that lane slowly...

So I check left, turned around, and WTF? Suddenly got another car appeared on my right?

-.-

...

He really "die die" squeeze in, just because I'm just keep a little left to the lane?

Then cannot wait? Overtake in filter lane? WTF is this?

-.-

From my instructor: "What the hell is wrong with these people... If I see someone with L Plate I'll try to keep as far away as possible."

Ticket To Class 3 - Chapter II

Lesson 2
S4 - Steering Part I and Gear Shifting
S5 - Braking

Lesson 3
S6 - Gear Shifting (3rd Gear)

Lesson 4 / 5
S7 - Blind Spot
S8 - Steering Part II

Lesson 6
S9 - Speed Adjustment
S10 - Traffic Rules

Basically, this is the first time that I feel that I'm really "driving on the road".

All the previous lessons were just moving in circles and circles. (Just that it got bigger everytime)

This is the first lesson that I get to travel to lot of different places and get all the "first time"...

First time going up slope, down slope, first time crossing traffic junction, use filter lanes, first time moving at more than 50KM, etc etc... Basically travel around the school.

It's the most fun so far... but the instructor is super irritating.

Keep on "niam niam niam" (nag nag nag)...

Like example... I traveling on 1 lane... then suddenly got what merging arrow come out. Then I don't know is what... never learn before leh... ( first time see)... then kanna say by him.

"You want to go bang other people car issit! And merging never signal!!!"

Then the darn motorcycle "suka suka" squeeze inside my lane, also my fault.

"Never keep to the center of the lane! Then you invite him to come in!" (Me was like, WTF?)

"You always turn and check blindspot at the same time! If got motorcycle HOW!!!"

"Approach traffic light never slow down! If turn yellow you can stop in time or not!"

"Stop on slope never step on your brake! Your car is rolling back you know or not!"

"Going down slope still accelerate! Look at how fast your vehicle is travelling!"

"Look far look far! Got see in front of vehicle or not!"

ZZZZ!

So even though it's the most fun... it's quite stressful sitting beside him... ZZZ...

!@#$%^$%^@#$!...

Ticket To Class 3 - Chapter I

Lesson 1 (S1 - S4) - 18 / 6 / 2009

Basically I'm like super newbie...

Look like a c***ster running around the place. At first I thought follow the sign then can find the car. In the end I realized the signboards are "pian ren" one... bluff people de. =_=

The car is like parked in a totally different area.

...

So anyway I finally found the car.

Instructor is a Chinese guy, look like a pretty nice person. So basically, we both went inside the car with me in the driver seat. The conversation sort of started like this...

Me: Er... today my first lesson.
Tutor: It's ok, nevermind. So, have you drive before?
Me: Er... No. (I thought it was obvious. It's my first practical lesson leh.)
Tutor: Really?
Me: Ya.
Tutor: Never illegally drive before?
Me: No. =_=
Tutor: Got play 'Daytona' before?
Me: ... ...

So nevermind. Seeing that I'm really driving for the first time ever in my life... He started explaining all the various parts of the vehicle. Like ask me what is this, what is that...

Tutor: What's this?
Me: Steering wheel.
Tutor: What's it for?
Me: Er... control the direction of the vehicle.
Tutor: Ok. If you want to turn left you turn the wheel...?
Me: Left.
Tutor: Right?
Me: Right.

...

...

Then continue to go through all the mirrors and gears and stuffs. After about like less than 10 minutes... He asked me to start the engine, which I did.

AND THEN... I thought he still going to explain more, but then he ask me to start the car.

ZZZ. Isn't this progressing like a bit too fast?

Basically I don't even know what to do. So he just teach me step by step.

I'll try to re-enact the scene...

Do note that this is the first time ever in my life that a car move while I'm in the driver seat.

So please forgive my dumbness...

Tutor: Ok, start the engine.
Me: (Start the engine)
Tutor: Step on the clutch.
Me: (Step)
Tutor: Slowly let go.
Me: (Slowly Let Go...)...

(Car starts moving)

Me: Ahhh... (Extremely STUN)
Tutor: (Never do anything)

(Car continue to move forward very slowly)

Me: Ahh...Ahhhhhh... Ahhhhhhhhhh~~~

(Car almost going out onto the main road)

Me: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Then just before the stop line the instructor brake for me. LOL. I just stoned there without doing anything when the car started moving.

I forgot all about the brakes and whatever. Heh... really funny...

...

...

So anyway, after that it was much better...

Basically started off with moving the car back and forth, back and forth, back and forth... (About 10 times)

Then after that, start driving around the circuit...

So I just basically spent the entire rest of the lesson going around the school in circles. Practicing all the basic things like changing gear, turning, all the coordination...

You can expect all the beginners mistake lah...

Engine died about 100 times throughout the whole lesson.

Heh... but it was a lot of fun.

Agri-Cola!

9th July / 10 July 2009

17. Agricola ( 5 / 5 )

When we were first introduced to this game, I didn't think too much of it. It seems overly complicated and isn't worth the effort to learn.

And I was dead wrong. This game is incredible.

It took a while to learn... but after our first game, we all wanted to play it again. So, we went back the following day again just to play it!

This is the highest rated board game on Board Game Geek out of like 30,000 board games (as of this writing), and it definitely live up to its name.

In Argicola, you played a farmer and a wife. From here, you have to rear animals, sow fields, harvest grains, grow your family, feed your family, renovate the huts, breed the cattles, etc... All the while, you have to manage your workers carefully and feed them well...

Sounds like Harvest Moon? Well, kinda.

It is a economic management strategy game that appears to be very straightforward, but have extremely DEEP UNDERLYING mechanisms behind it. Every move you make, every occupation you play, every improvement you make to your house will have deep and long-lasting impact on how you make your further moves. You will have to compete with your opponents for resources, actions, try to restrict his growth or advanced your own.

I simply love this game.

Tried the Basic Version on the 1st play, played the Advanced one on the 2nd day (which is much more strategic and fun)...

Even though it's not flawless, I just have to give it a 5 for its incredible gameplay, concept and innovation.

ALL HAIL AGRICOLA!

Board Games Craze!

I've been going on like this "Board Game Craze" lately... Really spamming Mind's and Settler's café a lot...

Yeah it's all thanks to Geraint =_=. It started with 1 trip, and then it somehow become a regular routine. And then for some reason I've been going there with more and more people.

If it goes on at this rate, I might be able to try all the games before the end of the year (if I play different games on each trip that is). Haha.

Anyway, this post is to keep track of my visits to the cafés and mainly the games I've played. (Will only list new games that I tried on each trip)

I'll just give a brief summary and a personal rating about how enjoyable each game is. If you want to read the details you can visit the link.

Note: I prefer strategic games over reaction games, and all the rating below are for strategic games only. All kind of reaction games can be fun with large group of people, so I won't mix and rate them together with the strategic ones.

Rating Guide:
R - Reaction Game.
1 - Boring/Unappealing.
2 - Average. Not bad but nothing special... can try.
3 - Good. Overall appealing gameplay and design.
4 - Great game. Loads of fun and recommended.
5 - Excellent. Must Play!
+ - A plus means I feel that this game is probably higher, but I haven't get to experience it to its fullest.

1st May 2009

1. TransAmerica (3 / 5)

A train game where you go around connecting your 5 secret cities and making use of other players rails.

It is a very simple game, yet one that requires you to do careful planning and some "scheming" to win. Can be pick up in like 5 minutes and very easy to play.

2. Arkham Horror ( 4+ / 5, If you manage to learn it all )

Very "huge scale" game, 1 Single game can take up like 2+ hours or more depending on the players.

It's like a cooperative RPG where you have to work together. Instead of fighting with each other, you are fighting against the game board.

You go around getting gold, better weapons and stuffs like Diablo. Every round, there'll be events, encounters, monsters combats and more.

The objectives is to seal all the portals... or win the fight against the "Final Boss".

From what I heard, there's only like 1 guy at Settlers who know how to play this.

And guess what? I looked it up on Wikipedia... this BOARD GAME has SIX frigging EXPANSIONS!!! That's crazy.

A really massive game that was quite a bit of learning curve due to so many things going on. It's darn fun if you know how to play though.

3. Boomtown (2 / 5)

You go around building mines and collecting rent... If you get mines of the same color you get more money. Some special cards add to spice things up a bit.

Kind of like Monopoly...

It's too luck based for me to favor it.

15th May 2009

4. Cartagena (3 / 5)

Also another fast and strategic game that can be learn easily.

It's kind of like TransAmerica, where you have to use other player moves to your advantage.

Easy to play and fun.

5. I'm The Boss! (Up to 5 / 5 with the right players)

Considered one of the more well known games... How enjoyable this game is depends largely on the people you're playing with. Haha.

You need people that can argue, negotiate, threaten, and pull out every dirty tricks... LOL...

The rated time is like 45 minutes... but I've heard of people who used up to 2 hours to finish a game, LOL.

6 Quick Sand (1 / 5)

One of the "dumber" games which involve mostly luck.

You take turns moving characters through the desert, while at the same time trying to hide your own identity.

You can send people into "Quicksand"... if you don't save him in time, he'll die.

It's too luck based for my liking. And it seems to be never ending.

28th May 2009

7. Wasabi! (3 / 5)

A very new game introduced to us by the Settler's staff. It's released like less than half a year ago...

Basically, you have to get ingredients and form recipes on the board (again, making use of other people ingredients), sort of like "Upwards/Scrabble" style.

Depending on how well you form the ingredients, you'll receive bonus points and use the "Chopsticks".

To the foreigners who design this game, using the chopsticks may be quite a challenge. But it's like a piece of cake to us Asians. Haha.

8. Small World ( 3+ / 5 )

This is a game where you control a civilization and fight for domination. The number of lands you own at the end of each turn determines how much points you gold you earn.

There's like a dozen of different races and unique special abilities which make it really fun. Orcs, Dragons, Humans, Elves, Wizards, Skeletons... most of the popular fantasy creatures are all in.

There's a lot of different combos that you can make use of., which makes it a game that's easy to pick up but hard to master...

18th June 2009

9. Family Business ( 3 / 5 )

Every player plays a "Mafia Family" and the goal is the eliminate all the other families by playing cards.

There's lot of things like "Mob War", "Double Cross", "Family Influence" and the ultimate imba "St Valentine Massacre".

It's very fun! A pity it's like 70% luck and 30% strategy... if it is the other way round I would have given it a 4.

10. Monopoly Deal Card Game ( 4 / 5 )

Don't be turned off by the "Monopoly" in its name... this game is a very refreshing change from the original Monopoly boardgame that we're familiar with.

It is of a much faster pace. (You can finish 1 game in 30 minutes instead of 3 hours)

It still retain the concept of traditional monopoly like property sets, money, also include some special cards like "Deal Breaker", "Just Say No", "Double Rent"...

Yes, this game depends much more on strategy than luck, and the tides can change VERY fast.

You may be leading 1 turn, but your wealth can easily be reduce to nothingness in the next turn if you don't play your cards well, and don't have enough "money insurance" to guard your property.

Overall just a very innovative and great spin off from the original.

11. Bacchu's Banquet ( 1 / 5 )

Sounds really fun when the person explained it... but gets boring really quick in my opinion...

Basically, each player plays a secret character and try to accomplish his goal (like kill the king, get enough gifts, etc...)

It's a lot of mind games, as people can "gift" items to each other, and the other must choose whether to accept it.

It can be poison, food (when you eat too much you can stuff yourself to death), etc...

The concept is not bad, but the pace of this game is extremely slow... which I feel is its main downfall.

24th June 2009 (Mind's Cafe)

12. Blokus ( 1 / 5 )

Alright game... requires strategy but a bit too "simplistic" and for my liking...

I don't like simply playing with cubes and blocks... without a "concept".

Like TransAmerica... even though it's just placing blocks, there's this idea of connecting cities and stuffs.

This one... it's just, well, blocks by itself. So I don't like it.

13. Citadels ( 4 / 5 )

King, Assassin, Warlock, Magician...

Dragons, Battlefields, Great Wall... what more can you ask for?

I just love all those medieval + fantasy elements.

Awesome card game that's easily to learn and really fun to play. I want to try the expansion!

28th June 2009 (Mind's Cafe)

14. Scotland Yard ( 2 / 5 )

This is like a "police and thief" game... One guy act as the "bad guy" and the other players are detective.

Everyone use various transportation like "Bus, Taxi, Underground" to move around the map.

The detectives must try to catch the bad guy before all the rounds are all over, using clues like what transport the criminal is taking to guess his location.

Alright game lah... didn't enjoy it a lot... Haha.

Maybe it's more fun to play as the bad guy?

15. Jurassic Jumble ( R )

OK... This is a reaction game.

Basically it's just trying to do collect a set and see who can "steal the bone" the fastest, musical chairs style.

Alright lah... maybe can compare to "Snorta".

16. Pictionary - 20th Anniversary
( 2 / 5, Largely dependent on Players )

Aha... the game that everyone knows... don't need explain much.

Basically there are some added stipulation like draw with eyes close, draw with alternate hands, etc...

If you make a successful draw, you move a dice roll... see who can get to the end the fastest.

The Story Of Stuff

MUST SEE!

SPREAD THIS VIDEO

Please take a moment to watch this 20 minutes video.

It will give you a whole new perspective on our current society...

...

This "Story of Stuff" segment reminded me of another video I saw sometime back on a friend's blog...

Known as the "The Zeitgeist Movement"

At that time, I just watched a fraction of the video cause it was too long (90 mins) and very "technical"...

But I went back to see that whole video again after seeing this "Story of Stuff".

...

Something is indeed very wrong with the world we live in...

...

Walk Walk Walk, Rain Rain Rain...

Went to ECP with Jason, Chris, Wayne and XJ today...

So anyway, we reach there at around 1+pm... cannot locate the place we want to go...

So we walk down from Area C... walk walk walk... finally reached Area B or A I think...

Then discover that we've been walking in the wrong direction... so nevermind... walk back... walk walk walk...

Pass Area C... Area D...

Ask some people... and heard the place is at the another end of ECP... =_= Past Bedok Jetty...

So nevermind, we decided to rent a bike since it's damn far... (We've been walking for nearly 1 hour by now)

So we start cycling... pass Area D, E, F... then reach the place liao...

In the end, we found out the price is really "kill people put fire"...

$25 per person, per hour!

WTH?!

Outside only like $4 per hour...

...

=_=

So nevermind, we cancel the plans and decide to roller blade or what... so decide to head to the bike shop first...

Then... 3+ pm...

"BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!"

Rain!!!

...

Nevermind... cycle cycle... all the way until area G (reach the end liao!) but cannot locate the bike shop!

Then... the bike suddenly "broke down"!

The chains got entangle and stuff... me and Jason had to "fix it in the rain"...

...

...

Then cycle back... finally found the bike shop...

Wait there for the rain to stop before we left...

Walk walk walk...

Then realize that forget to return the receipt, went back to the bike shop again...

Walk walk walk...

...

...

Decided to cancel all plans after that and head to Parkway Parade... got caught in the rain once again.

Reach there... don't know do "simi sai"... Eat dinner, then walk here walk there doing nothing.

So we start crossing over to simi plaza to play LAN/pool...

At first walk north... then walk south...then started to rain SUPER HEAVILY...

Realizing that we cannot walk any further, decide to cancel that plan and walk back... then get caught in the rain ONCE AGAIN.

In the end, really nowhere else to go... trapped inside that place... So went to the Arcade for a while before deciding to go home... (8+pm liao...)

Then walking to the bus-stop... frigging RAIN AGAIN! Caught for the 4th time in the rain!

...

...

Lucky got direct bus to Woodlands...

But it's DARN LONG... Sit until cramp...

Over 1 hour+ bus ride...

Woodlands there... walk home...

Walk walk walk... RAIN AGAIN!!!

OMG?!

WHAT THE ...

...

...

Finally home...

Home Sweet Home...

Just bath and drank some hot water...

I am feeling darn sick right now.

As in, real sick. (Wet -> Dry -> Wet for like 4, 5 times)

I hope I don't wake up with fever tomorrow.

Please no.

I think I walk more distance today then I would in 1 week.

This is just a BAD day.
