3 Months Break!

So!!!

I've got more than 3 solid months of holidays from this moment up to August...

Or more specifically, 10th August 2009.

...

And I really have to keep myself occupied.

I mean...

Really occupied.

I can't lead myself astray...

I can't let myself rot into oblivion...

So I really need to find something meaningful to do...

...

...

...

And so, here's some major things I'm going to do:

1) CIDP Week
Of course. Can't run from this one. Realistically speaking though, my 3 months break starts right after this.

...

2) The Time Machine
During a certain day on May, I will travel back in time through a time machine, back to the past, back to August 2008. I will travel back to the past to complete something that ought to be completed 10 months ago, and take back $500 some guy owes me.

...

3) Learn Something
Or at least, start learning it. Thanks to all those people who encourage me to do this. To complete it before the break is over is kinda unrealistic. Hopefully, I can finish it by the end of the year if I keep up on it consistently.

...

4) Complete my "100" and "200"
Some may know what it is, but I'll reveal it officially once I accomplish it. I should have completed this like ages ago, but I kept giving up halfway due to one reason or the other. I'm currently only like 30% there... ... But I'm sure I can complete it before the long break is over.

...

Really need to take care of myself... I look like I just rise from the grave. Even have to go see a "specialist"... think this is the most serious case in a while. It's recovering fast though, so I'm really glad.

:)

And of course, just enjoy and recharge~

Go out and catch up with old friends, play the video games that I've been dying to get my hands on, watch those dramas/movies that I'm interested to see... etc etc...

And also need to do some spring cleaning around the house, organize some of those messy things lying around, fixed some of the broken gadgets... Ha.

And... Hmm... I don't know, maybe start getting myself acquittance with 3D Studio Max again, and start modeling some huge castle? (In preparation for the next semester module)

Haha...

The first 2 affair alone would last me till "Mid June" or something... so that's just like 6 - 7 weeks left le...

I'm sure I can pull myself through this ...

Leon's Farewell

This is written as 2 separate posts combined.

25th April 2009

First, dinner at Cafe Iguana (Some Mexican Cuisine Restaurant)...

Quite a lot of in attendance, including some rare guests whom I haven't seen in ages. Some for nearly a year I think.

Wei Qi, Joo San, Charleston... Think I haven't seen them since the ORD Dinner in June 2008. And Jonathan of course... think he take the chance to come back during some long Holiday Season.

Oh, and I guess I can consider Yun Zhen a rare guest too. But then again, he just appeared to say Hi... O_o

...

Other than that, it's just the usual gang of people...

Main topic mostly resolves around a very sad case about a certain course-mate back in our "Basic Dog Handler Course" days... crazy case that shocked everyone.

I think this is the first time that someone I know get into trouble of such scale...

...

I think Wei Qi should be glad that he came to PDF with us... and not be posted to some other "ulu" place alone. Otherwise, it's hard to say where he'll be right now... LOL.

...

Anyway... basically just lots of catching up with one another on old times. I don't like the food though. These kind of exotic food just doesn't suits me. Haha.

Half of the group went home after that, while our batch guys and Leon went for a little "tour around Singapore"... hunting for some place to sit down...

O_O

Anyway, eventually went to some placed call "Grapevine"...

...

Basically just chit-chat some more, more "good-old times", and some supper before we went home...

27th April 2009

This is the actual sending off.

Once again, even more people I haven't seen for quite some time, namely Edwin & Wei Hao. Maybe SK.

O_O

...

Ha... seems like lot of my friends are leaving the country.

Unlike Dominic, it's not actually known if Leon will be coming back to Singapore...

So it's probably going to be quite a long time before we'll get too see him again.

All Da Best~

Even If The Whole World Abandon Me...

有一天, 我在想, 我到底, 算是个什么东西

...

还是我, 会不会, 根本就不算东西

...

This in my opinion is Mayday's best "fast song" ever...

...

And I don't know if it's a coincidence,

But it actually harness the essence of the 3 quotes I made in the previous post.

[Yeah, just look at the lyrics and you'll notice slight variations of all the quotes]

...

...

...

It doesn't matter if the coin you just tossed landed on head or tails.

It doesn't matter on if it's raining or if it's shining.

Or any other external factors.

...

Cause all of it doesn't matter.

Cause at the end of the day,

Whether you want to do something or not...

...

The decision lies with yourself.

Reflections On 4 Unfortunate Events

Finally the exams are over...

I can free my mind of all the academic troubles.

...

This might not seem like an appropriate time to do an "emo" post to dampen my mood, but it's actually the best time.

Get it out of the way, and start writing about the happier things in life.

Haha.

...

...

So...

...

In the past 4 months, I'm very "lucky" to have four very unfortunate events consecutively happening in my life.

...

Yeah, so technically it's like one of the downtimes of my life.

Some of it has been resolved; Some is "just there"; Some... ... I really don't know.

It's really been 1 hell of a ride...

...

...

...

Haiz... let's do some reflections, OK?

...

At the same time, I can introduce to everyone 3 extremely good quotes I've learnt.

...

1. Moment Of Folly (一失足成千古恨)

OK Lah, 千古 is kinda exaggerated.

But this is one of the dumbest mistake I made very early this year, and I really hated myself for it.

If I was thinking more clearly, If I was more experienced... I wouldn't have commited such an elementary mistake.

So, with a click of a button and a swap, I sealed my fate for the next 3 months...

I only saw the immediate benefit and didn't think about the consequences. I thought I got myself a great bargain, but what I got was hell.

And I paid dearly for this mistake, one that last for 3 long agonizing months.

So the moral of the story is:

Look before you jump.

...

...

Luckily, through strong determination and an undying spirit, I managed to recover from this mistake, possibly with the results being better than I initially thought possible.

I tried and tried, and many times I really feel like giving up. But I guess somehow I manage to persevere through it.

It was a very bad experience, but also one that I learned a lot from.

I guess you can call it a "Painful Lesson".

You just have to keep trying, and never give up till the end.

...

And I quote,

"The only time you can't afford to fail is the last time you try." - Charles Kettering

2. A Farce (一场闹剧)

The second one came as a huge shocked to me.

Yeap.

HUGEEEEEEEEE SHOCK.

...

...

...

But it wasn't really that big of a deal.

Basically, it's a small issue, blown out of proportion by some "super idol" (aka "super idle") people.

...

...

Yep.

Looking back at it now, that is exactly what it is.

Ha.

...

...

Thankfully,

I did what I did.

Not more.

Not less.

And (hopefully have) put an end to this nonsense.

...

...

And so I quote,

"Life is 10% about what happens to you and 90% of how you deal with it." - Charles R. Swindoll

3. Like Stranger (形同陌路)

...

...

The 3rd issue is what pains me the most...

...

Yes.

It brought me more pain than almost everything I can think of in the past four months.

I've seriously lost count of how many sleepless nights, headaches, and "emo-days" it has caused me...

...

I've done so much, so much.

I offered my help whenever I can. I shared whatever I can share, and I did whatever within my capability.

...

So much time together.

So many happy moments...

...

...

But so what?

It doesn't matter.

Because... because I realized...

I realized that all of it can be obliterated.

All of it can be written off, wiped out from history, just like that.

Instantly.

Without me even knowing anything.

Without me even having a chance to react.

Without even giving me a chance to do anything at all.

...

And the reason?

...

The funny thing is, I don't even know the reason.

HAHA.

How HUMILIATING.

...

...

...

I don't feel like explaining myself.

I don't feel the need to, because I honestly haven't done anything worthy of such treatment.

Why should I act like I'm the one to blame? Or I'm the one at fault?

And I can't believe the things I've heard.

Haha.

It's like totally contradictory to what I think it is.

...

...

I cherish every single one of my friendship.

...

Every single one.

...

Every one.

But tell me.

Tell me how can I cherish one that the other party doesn't care?

How can I cherish one in which I'm totally insignificant?

How can I go on to cherish one that after giving so much, what I got in return was just plain harsh, uncaring and sarcastic treatment?

...

Everytime, I am left with a feeling of loneliness.

...

...

...

I am just 1 person. ONE PERSON.

Do you think it is easier for the world to outcast one person, or one person to outcast the world?

...

...

...

Haiz...

...

...

I'm not going to go on anymore.

I've already lost count of how many entries I've written on this thing, and every single one is just sadder than the previous.

And I'm really tired of this.

This will be the last post on this.

Cause I don't want to be tortured by this anymore.

...

...

...

If things have to turn out this way, then SO BE IT.

...

...

And my final quote,

"You can’t make anybody feel the way you’d like them to. If they do, it’s wonderful. And if they don’t, you move on." - Nicole Trager, Kyle XY

Using All My Heart...

NTU Musical Charts Content Page

It seems that no matter how much we do...

No matter how much we study...

How many times we go through the lecture notes...

How many tutorials we do...

How many sleepless night deciding whether the past year paper solutions are correct or not...

...

...

It is never enough.

...

When you have put in so much effort but still got the "shock" when you see the exam papers...

It can only be summarized by this line:

...

"用心良苦却成空"~~~

...

...

...

Is it still not enough?

...

Is it?

...

...

"我的痛, 怎么形容, 难道我, 做的还不够"~~~

...

Title: 用心良哭

你的脸, 有几分憔悴
我的眼, 有残留的泪 (This is how everyone look like during exams)
你我都, 在为测验准备

我用去, 整夜的时间
想分辨, 在你我之间 ("你" here refers to the PYP "Solutions")
到底谁, 的ANSWER才是对

我一直在努力
我每天在温习
可是看到考卷时的心情... ...

Human Relations Are So Fragile...

You know... I really don't want to address this issue right now, but it keeps coming back to haunt me.

...

...

I really don't want to think about this right now, because it keeps affecting my mood whenever I am reminded of it.

...

But this issue...

It's really...

...

It aches my heart.

...

It really does.

...

Really.

All the times together...

...

I thought it meant something.

...

Ha.

But in actual fact, it meant nothing.

Nothing.

It Keeps Getting Stronger & Stronger...

Congratulations!

I've officially fallen sick again.

...

Well technically speaking, it really isn't "again".

...

Has been coughing on and off for like the past 3 weeks or so. It sort of just like turn on & off & I never really fully recovered from it.

And today, I woke up with blocked nose + fever.

Yea... The flu is back at full strength again.

The dreaded flu...

...

So I just went to buy some panadol...

And gosh... I didn't realize there were so much "variety" to choose from.

It's like shopping for the latest tech gadgets.

...

...

It seems the pills just keep getting stronger and stronger...

...

Last time, there's just your normal, standard "Panadol".

Sometime down the road, some smart people decided to come up with many "enhanced versions"

...

First, there's "Panadol Extra".

Then there's "Panadol Ultra".

Then comes "Panadol Rapid",

"Panadol Actifast",

"Panadol Extra Strong"

...

...

...

WOW. The rapid development of panadols can only be compared to technological advances by Graphics Card & CPU.

Maybe next time we'll have "Panadol Force GTX" Or "Panadol Power4890 Overclock"...

Or maybe "Core 2 Panadol", "Extreme Quad Panadol" with 2 and 4 times the effect of a normal panadol...

...

...

Indeed, it seems that the "original panadol" can no longer cure our increasingly chronic headaches, toothaches, backaches...

Everytime you pop a pill, your body natural ability to "resist pain" drops.

As you use more and more of such painkillers, you'll require stronger and stronger version to feel its effects.

Perhaps that's why the company just keep releasing stronger and stronger ones.

And as the consumers, we'll naturally buy the "BEST" ones...

The ones that can relieve us of our terrible pain in the fastest way possible

...

Even though I know it's not good to keep eating these...

I really have no choice.

So I got this "Panadol Flu ULTRA - MAX". (Yes, the "ultra" and "max" are capitalized on the cover)

...

...

I think by our children generation, we'll have stuffs like...

"Panadol Rapid Ultra Actifast"

"Panadol Ultimate"

"Panadol: Overpowering Aggression"

"Panadol: Fatality"

"Panadol: Ultimate Fatality Intensity Destructor" - Kills all your Pain, Kills all your Cells.

...

...

...

Hmm... Ok the flu is getting to my head.

Time to sleep.

Nitez.

The Golden Path

I already said the previous song is not a nostalgic song post...

...

If anything, that song expresses better than words how I feel at this time.

...

...

...

But anyway... since it seems to be quite well-received, I'll give you another one.

Not as classic as the previous one, but...

...

多少爱错过了才看清楚
多少事无法弥扑才认输
多少次以为找到了幸福
却发现一开始就是个错误

(These 4 lines are my favourite part of the entire song. Epic lyrics + tune)

In my opinion, This "late 2007 drama" is the LAST Mediacorp serial with a really awesome theme song.

...

...

Comparatively,

The themes songs nowadays can really be described as thrash.

...

I don't even want to taint this place with such atrocious crap, so I will just provide the link instead of embedding it.

...

Thrash like THIS.

Silence Rebuttal

This is not a "Nostalgic Song" post.

当别人误解我的时候,我总是沉默
沉默对我来说其实是一种反驳
当世界遗忘我的时候,我一个人过
幸福对我来说其实是一种传说
当敌人越来越多,朋友都离开我

...

...

No it isn't.

...

It's about friendship.

...

Friendship...

Why Chinese Shouldn't Have Christian Names

Confusing Chinese Names

Caller : Hello, can I speak to Annie Wan (anyone)?

Operator : Yes, you can speak to me.

Caller : No, I want to speak to Annie Wan (anyone)!

Operator : You are talking to someone! Who is this?

Caller : I'm Sam Wan (Someone). And I need to talk to Annie Wan (anyone)! It's urgent.

Operator : I know you are someone and you want to talk to anyone! But what's this urgent matter about?

Caller : Well... just tell my sister Annie Wan (anyone) that our brother Noel Wan (no one)has involved in an accident. Noel Wan (no one)got injured and now Noel Wan (no one) is being sent to the hospital. Right now, Avery Wan (everyone) is on his way to the hospital.

Operator : Look if no one was injured and no one was sent to the hospital, then the accident isn't an urgent matter! You may find this hilarious but I don't have time for this!

Caller : You are so rude! Who are you?

Operator : I'm Saw Lee (Sorry).

Caller : Yes! You should be sorry. Now give me your name!!!

Why Chinese shouldn't have Christian names:

The 90 / 10 Principle

Dear Students,

With the exams coming,
some of you may be tired...
some of you may be discouraged...
some of you may feel like giving up...

I hope that these slides may refresh your heart & mind.
I mentioned about the 90%-10% for public speaking,
but there's also a 90%-10% principle we could use to deal with difficult situations or people in our life.

Enjoy these slides :)

I received this email yesterday from my...

*SURPRISE!

Tech Communication Tutor!

Thought I already cleared the module?

How come suddenly got this?

...

It's definitely a good read... highly recommended!!!

Posting everything from the slides below.

I think this is probably the MOST IMPORTANT & USEFUL Tech Comm "lesson" I learned throughout this entire module.

...

Hope I can apply it~

The 90/10 Principle

Author : Stephen Covey ( Management Guru)

Have you read this before? Discover the 90/10 Principle. It will change your life

(at least the way you react to situations). What is this principle?

10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean?

We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.

How? By your reaction. You cannot control a red light., but you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let's use an example. You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just what happened. What happens when the next will be determined by how you react. You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over.

She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your spouse must leave immediately for work.

You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home, When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter.

Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?

B) Did your daughter cause it?

C) Did the policeman cause it?

D) Did you cause it?

The answer is " D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, "It's ok honey, you just need, to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference? Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why? Because of how you REACTED. You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle. If someone says something negative about you, don't be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound on the steering wheel? A friend of mine had the steering wheel fall off)

Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them? WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the cars ruin your drive? Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not worry about it.

You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep and get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy and time into finding another job. The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take out your frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on. Use your time to study, get to know the other passenger. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse. Now you know the 90-10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it.

The 90-10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this principle.

The result? Millions of people are suffering from undeserved stress, trials, problems and heartache. We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life!!!

Update (6th April 2009):

What Irony... I just got the chance to "apply" this principle the following day after I posted this... -_-

...

Basically, my brother caused the computer to be infected with some virus...

Really makes my blood boil...

Thanks to Ben for helping me look for the removal tool...

Eww...

Luckily it didn't do much damage.

And I didn't flare up.

=_=

NTU Y1S2, Week 13 In Review

Final Week

It's the final week of the Semester....

Almost no lessons for the whole week, just a few revision classes here and there.

Also started a bit of revision...

Nothing much to say... Maybe I'll share something funny...

It took placed during the Algorithm Test on Thursday...

And it goes like this...

In the lecture room... I was sitting together with ZX, awaiting the start of the test...

...

...

At this moment...

LKK: Alright, all of you have to get out... Wait outside for 5 minutes while I give out the papers...

...

ZX stood up and carried his bag.

Me: Eh, need to take bag out meh... Just leave it here?

And so he put down his bag, and proceed to retrieve his wallet from his bag.

...

Me: What the hell... you don't trust the teacher arh... (Taking out my wallet at the same time as I was saying this)

...

...

ZX: You also don't trust him...

...

LOL...

Outside the lecture room, both of us started discussing why we don't trust him...

...

And it led to this conclusion:

Cause this is a test on "Greedy Algorithm".

...

Maybe...

Just maybe, he's applying the "greedy algorithm" practically now.

Checking everyone wallet...

Trying to get "the largest amount of money using the minimum amount of notes".

...

...

Then all the way we were talking about this greedy thing.

Soo lame....
